China’s oil imports from Russia up 8.2% in 2022 to 86.24 mln tons — customs

BEIJING, January 20. /TASS/. Russian crude oil supplies to China rose by 8.2% in 2022 to 86.24 mln tons, the General Administration of Customs of China reported on Friday.

The cost of oil purchased by China from Russia in the reporting period increased by 43.9% compared with 2021 to $58.37 bln.

In December, Russia ranked second among the leading oil suppliers to the People’s Republic of China, according to data released. China purchased 6.47 mln tons of oil from Russia last month (down by around 17% compared with November).

Saudi Arabia ranked first among Beijing’s oil suppliers last year as it sold 87.48 mln tons with $64.97 bln (physical volume was almost flat compared with 2021, while the value climbed by 47.8%).

Russia was followed by Iraq in terms of supply volumes to China (55.48 mln tons worth $39.09 bln), the United Arab Emirates (42.77 mln tons worth $32.24 bln) and Oman (39.37 mln tons worth $29.15 bln).

In 2021, China’s imports of Russian oil fell by 4.5% to 79.64 mln tons in physical terms, and increased by around 45% to $40.55 bln in value terms, according to the Chinese customs.
